Discover the thrill of whitewater rafting in the Great Smoky Mountains with Appalachian Outdoors. An easy drive from the Sunset Cottage Rentals office in Pigeon Forge, Appalachian Outdoors offers whitewater rafting on class I-IV rapids — the closest whitewater rafting you’ll find to the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area of East Tennessee.

 

Never been whitewater rafting before? Not a problem. Appalachian Outdoors welcomes beginning rafters. No experience is necessary to participate in an Appalachian Outdoors whitewater rafting trip, as each raft carries a professional guide.

 

Appalachian Outdoors offers two guided whitewater rafting trips on the Pigeon River. The Appalachian Outdoors whitewater rafting trip on the Big Pigeon River (or Upper Pigeon River) traverses six and a half miles and features continuous class II-IV rapids. The Appalachian Outdoors whitewater rafting excursion on the Lower Pigeon River is a shorter, gentler trip featuring primarily class I-II rapids, with only one class III rapid — making it especially suited to groups traveling with young children. All rafters are required to wear a life vest.

Appalachian Outdoors Operating Schedule

Appalachian Outdoors offers Smoky Mountain whitewater rafting trips year-round. In the winter months, however, trips are scheduled only when the weather permits. During summer, Pigeon River rafting trips are offered, rain or shine.

 

Guests of Sunset Cottage Rentals are eligible for a $10 discount on each ticket. Reservations are recommended.

 

Participants in the Big Pigeon River rafting trip must be at least eight years of age or weigh 70 pounds. Minimum age requirement for the Lower Pigeon River rafting trip is four years.
